Space, and you can blog about it

I never got to fulfil my dream of being an Irish Astronaut, it would have helped if Ireland had even a glimmer of an Irish Space Program but what I have done is spread by love of space and technology by attending a NASA Social and spreading the word of what NASA and organizations do not only in space but for all humans here on earth. I encourage everyone to try and apply, it's an amazing opportunity to be behind the scenes.  https://www.nasa.gov/connect/social/index.html

Witness Cassini’s Finale at Saturn Live from JPL

Social media users are invited to apply for access to a two-day event culminating in the triumphant end of NASA’s Cassini mission to Saturn after nearly 20 years in space. Up to 25 selected participants for the September 14-15 event will tour, explore and share their experiences from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Writers, vloggers, photographers, educators, students, artists and other curious minds who use social media to engage specific audiences are encouraged to apply.
NASA Social participants will have the opportunity to:
  • tour JPL, including a visit to mission control and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility
  • meet Cassini mission scientists and engineers
  • share in the final moments of the Cassini spacecraft in orbit around Saturn, live from the JPL media site
  • meet fellow space enthusiasts who are active on social media
  • meet members of NASA’s social media team
NASA Social registration for this event opens on this page on Thursday, June 22, and the deadline to apply is Thursday, June 29 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. All social applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Very much recommend folks apply for ‪#‎NASASocial‬ - they are having a State of NASA event in 9 different locations at the NASA centers in Alabama, California, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas and Virginia. No two locations are the same. Each center has a different itinerary depending on their location. Free to apply and attend for US citizens. Its an amazing experience !

The HIPEC treatment - http://www.hipectreatment.com/about-the-hipec-procedure/

The HIPEC treatment alone will cost $400,000They also will have to pay $25,000 for initial tests. MD Anderson Cancer Center is the only hospital in the world that has the expertise to perform this HIPEC treatment on children. The treatment involves open surgery to remove all the tumors in Gavin & then insert heated chemotherapy (42 degrees) into his abdominal region. The surgery can take unto 12 hours to complete.

PaddynotPatty!

Its St Patricks day again here in the States. Every year without fail it annoys me no end that folks write Happy St Pattys day.. AHHHHH! Its St Patricks Day, you can say St Paddy (since Paddy is slang for Patrick), St Pat if you must but never never never St Pattys day

Its Paddy not Patty

EVER!

Ok.. Think that's hopefully enough on that one, and while I'm on the soapbox. I never had corned beef in my life till I moved to America. We dont eat that in Ireland. Its more an Irish American tradition taken from our Jewish neighbors in Hells Kitchen all those years ago when we couldnt get beef. Also if you are going to have the dish for the love of God can you please put vinegar in the cabbage so that the whole table is not farting through their own version of Oh Danny Boy. Thank you kindly

What do Irish people do on St Paddys day?- well we go to mass, stick some shamrock on our coat, get the kids to a parade (and men in kilts are not Irish, that would be Scots who we love but not our country) and then go and drink in afternoon and evening. Its a day off, we love it and we dont tend to drink green beer and if someone put their finger and drew a shamrock in your Guinness you'd take their head off.

Ok - back to drowning the shamrock as we say

5 years

5 years ago we drove to Good Sam and along you came. Our hobbit became Gandalf. You're funny, smart, sweet, you make your little brother laugh (and cry :). Happy Birthday and a big first day at kindergarten tomorrow. Love you F1, watching you grow up is even more fun that I ever could have imagined.

photots

So been a while since I blogged here - new job, new activities - and the quickness of facebook seem to chip away at longer blog posts. I still enjoy though writing and guess I'll get my chance when I start back school end of August. I start a MLIS - as well as the full time job and the two wonderful kiddies and my hubbie to all keep up on. However I do have advantage as I work EST hours for VA area - even though I'm on west coast - so I start at 6am and finish by 3 - so gives me two hours to do school work/exercise/laundry/cook dinner etc - all those errands before I get the kiddos - they are at a new daycare for the summer. We like her a lot but I know the boys will look forward to going back to seeing their Catherine again as shes like family. Me - I'm doing grand - I dont say a diet anymore as now its just a way of life - low calorie, low carb, low fat and higher protein - its working and I also feel so much more energetic. Heres the recent family shots - my wee pirates!

Race Day

Heres my Dad and hubbie at the St Patricks Day Race - my Dad pushing the stroller with F1 and F2 walking came 2nd in his age group - to say hes a fast walker is an understatement. Hubbie ended up jogging beside him just trying to keep up

So far we have done a 5K every month since January and we do one next week! Yeah!
